Dear reader,
What happens when I start journaling on this platform is that I spend every waking minute hunched over my phone, and I end up losing myself in the attempt to record and transmit. So this trip I am going to try doing it differently: a few notes and observations, that will give you – and in time me – the gist, and a splattering of photos. Let’s see how that goes. 😁
Packing and unpacking, nailing the lists detailing pannier contents. Neurotic head spin.
Tape up the kitchen for damp-proofing work.
A hair’s breadth from leaving without my wallet.
Mindfulness? 😂
Shovelling water at BoA station.
Ticket stress – the world we live in. BoA to London not on GWR app so had to dig out email. Bike reservation in separate place –WhatsApp message.
Cost of journey to London 150% cost of London to Glasgow.
Why am I putting myself through this…
Cycling between Paddington and Euston, am I the only cyclist not jumping red lights?
Fun cycling along city streets.
My Avanti email cycle reservation almost doesn’t pass inspection at Euston.
I marinade in my Japanese learning app.
Snow on hills north of Lancaster.
In Glasgow, flecks of snow as I weave through the city centre.
At Queen Street: bike booking? No but… Friendly station operative (er?) has time to tell me about his recent Caribbean holiday. But later insists on me suspending my bike from a hook in an empty bike area. Will my back wheel be permanently buckled? (No. 😁)
A young woman plays Chopin and Debussy on an upright piano, her iPad Giving her freedom of repertoire.
On the train a couple are eating their supper. They are going to do a 6-day walk from Fort William to Aviemore, camping along the way. 😳 Wowzer.
Bone-chilling breeze at late-evening Oban, harbour lit. A strange way to arrive.
The room smells of bleach but has everything I need.
I contemplate my multi-leg journey and feel tired, and thankful to have completed it. So far so good.
